I love this movie! The director is Marilyn Agrelo and the screenplay is written by Amy Sewell. Not being interested in Ballroom dancing I thought it might be a bore, but I was captivated.

In fact I'm jealous, because I have "two left feet". This documentary follows students in New York City schools as they learn to dance and prepare to enter the city-wide annual ballroom dancing contest. It is about a program to teach ballroom dancing to students in New York inner city schools. After an initial screening, buyers quickly engaged in a bidding war for the distribution rights, with Paramount Classics winning out in the end. It's humorous and poignant and hopeful, as we get to know these I think it was genius that Pierre Dulaine had the foresight to provide an opportunity for city school children to experience ballroom.

My only negative would be that it gets a little repetetive as time goes along, but nevertheless, it's a good watch and especially if you are interested in children and how they think and act. Another great wrinkle to this documentary are the interviews with the kids in regards to their dreams, visions, and their day-to-day lives. I was also impressed by how dedicated the children were.
