It had not been used for a few years and the gas had gone bad in the carb bowl (the tank had been emptied). I think it's becasue of a leaking spraygun though. Model 580. Because of this, I am sure you are right about the valve! I like to disassemble the piston/valve assembly and clean it up, replace o-rings if needed, and then I coat it with vaseline and reassemble. Now it starts right up but spits gas out all over from flooding.
It is telling the operator that the water supply does not meet the pump’s recommended flow rate. Always disconnect the spray wand before cleaning it. So I kinda adopted the "If it aint broke" theory

That fixed my flooding problem which spilled gas out through air cleaner when unit was shut off. There is one retainer/guide at the engine pulley maybe there should be two. Every time I put the mower in the off position the belt falls off the engine pully. I don't think I've ever seen one that didn't leak somewhere. Check that the water supply and inlet screen are unrestricted. A little water leak should not cause the problem(s) you describe. If you experience constant surging or a drop in the pressure from your cold water pressure washer, it most likely has something to do with a blockage.
It starts pretty easily and runs ok when choked, but once the throttle is opened, it's baccccccccckk.

It's acting as if the governor needs adjusting. If while the engine is under NO Load, it surges a bit, realize the engine throttle is at full and with no load trys to over rev. It doesn't matter whether the engine is hot or cold. I have thought about troubleshooting it further but the units all check out and operate properly. I have left well enough alone and lived with it rather than tearing the carb apart and cleaning it since it runs perfectly in all other respects. Its been a not so good week my stuff going out on me. Did you replace the intake gasket?
