Furthermore, there is a difference between Mr. Slinger taking Lilly’s purse away and a student demanding the same thing. But did Lilly feel bad or did she simply want Mr. Slinger to still like her, or had she been told that apologies are required? Plus, you get additional resources included in our updated curriculum guide. Why, then, does Mr. Slinger have legitimate authority and not the student? My speciality is editing teacher products (lesson plans, curriculum, handouts, etc.) Is it forgiveness?

Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse asks us to think about how to apologize and the value of forgiveness. As a result of this lesson, students will be able to: 1. discuss the book: Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse 2. make a text-to-self connection between themselves and the story by identifying their own prized possessions 3. write about their own prized possessions
Some children may say that Mr. Slinger will forget about the incident and his relationship with Lilly will be exactly the same as it was before, but this contrasts what most philosophers believe about forgiveness.

All of this changes when she brings her new purse to school and creates a distraction with it. That is until he takes her purple plastic purse for being too disruptive. Lilly’s mother writes a note and her father bakes snacks, while Lilly draws a picture in which Mr. Slinger supposedly declares his forgiveness to Lilly.

Children may say that because Lilly says “I’m sorry” she has appropriately apologized. However, is this apology sufficient?

We often ask students about their favorite part of a book. before they’re published and/or released to teachers via school districts or places such as TpT. When Lilly grows up, she wants to be just like her favorite teacher, Mr. Slinger.

The question set for this part of the discussion focuses on the existence and justification of authority.

Lilly loves everything about school, especially her cool teacher, Mr. Slinger. Ask students to look at the cover and discuss what emotions Lilly might be feeling. The student does not have authority over Lilly, even though his reason for taking away the bag might be the same as Mr. Slinger’s.
